"I, {insert name here}, do solemnly swear, (or affirm), that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God." (Note that the last sentence is not required to be said if the speaker has a personal or moral objection)

The difference between the right word and the nearly right word is the difference between lightning and lightning bug.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into locked a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

I think instead of bringing people into the country to do IT work, train people in our country first! Half of the people I work around I can barely understand, the accents are too damn thick! Funny that so many in India study Oracle/Informatics/DBA skills, hell most IT skills. We need to train our own people to do the same things. But we charge $30K for that training... Then need to up the H1-B count to compensate for the shortage!?!?!?!?! There are people out there that need jobs. I bet there are people who are smart enough to handle IT work, that never get a chance because of their skin color/social status/etc.

17 August 2007

Your rare chance for one of my recipes!

Like I said... I needed a little time work this one out. But here it is:

Asiago Grits

1 c. quick grits
3.5 c. water
2 lg eggs -- beaten + milk to make 1 c.
.5 stick unsalted butter
.25 tsp salt - for boiling
.25 tsp smoked salt
.5 tsp pepper
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Aleppo
1 cloves garlic -- chopped
6 oz shredded mild cheese (colby, jack, etc)
8 oz grated aged Asiago cheese
pinch Smoked Spanish 'hot' paprika (optional)

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish.

Place the milk, water, and salt into a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Once the milk mixture comes to a boil, gradually add the grits while continually whisking. Once all of the cornmeal has been incorporated, decrease the heat to low and cover. Remove lid and whisk frequently, every 3 to 4 minutes, to prevent grits from sticking or forming lumps; make sure to get into corners of pot when whisking. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes or until mixture is creamy.

Remove from the heat, add the pepper, garlic, and butter; whisk to combine. Add smoked salt, worcestershire, & aleppo to the eggs. Gradually stir in the eggs, until fully combined. Stir in the Asiago & 3oz mild cheese into the grits. Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Cover with the rest of the cheese and sprinkle paprika on top. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until set.

um, yeah... New Dark Ages

Yeah can you hear the call in our rambling land susurrations,
That can expand beyond all hope of light and plunge us into unrelenting night

A pall on truth and reason,
It feels like hunting season
So avoid those lines of sight and we'll set this right

Welcome to the new dark ages
I hope you're living right
These are the new dark ages
And the world might end tonight

Now come ye children one and all - let's heed Ezekiel's call,
And bide until the word is good and ripe and get plucked clean out of sight

The world will be erased our kin will be
Immaculate ejaculate in space
Before the kind of king's love, he'll snatch us
From above, brothers help me sing it

Welcome to the new dark ages
I hope you're living right
These are the new dark ages
And the world might end tonight

So how do you sleep
There's nothing to keep
This is deep

Because we're animals - with golden rules
Who... who can't be moved by rational views

Welcome to the new dark ages
I hope you're living right
Welcome to the new dark ages
And the world might end tonight

Fvcking TSA... what a bunch of idiots

The sippy-cup episode. This as retarded as my toothpaste & hair gel. I was headed to KC in May. After an xray and a walk over to table, the TSA monkey searched my day bag. Found the "offending items". Both were over the 3.4oz limit... I told the TSA monkey he was stupid and needed to study chemistry. He then asked me if I wanted to check my bag. Of course, I did. The woman at the counter laughed when I was checking it. However, after the use of a sharpie. I was able to get the exact same two items onto the plane as carry-on in KC. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?!?! Assmonkeys!

As for liquids?!?!?!? The two types of liquids proposed for use in the London plot are TATP & HMTD. We all know this is a dumbass method. Can't be done easily. See below:

The explosive is easily made from three colourless liquids- hydrogen peroxide, which is common in antiseptic solutions, acetone, which is commonly used as a paint thinner and nail polish remover, and sulfuric acid, which is available from many sources as a battery electrolyte and drain cleaner.

But let’s be a little bit more critical here. You have to keep all of these three liquids separate from each other until you want to make TATP. You have to use highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide, which is not nice stuff at all- after all, it maimed and killed thousands of people during the Second World War, when the Nazis used it as oxidizer for their A-4 engines. It also gasses off oxygen constantly and reacts aggressively with plastics of all kinds, which makes carrying it anywhere a challenge. You have to use hydrogen peroxide at least a hundred times more concentrated than that which is used as a hair bleach. Oh, and peroxides are already banned in air travel. You have to mix the acetone with the hydrogen peroxide during the reaction, which is actually the hard part. Acetone plus hydrogen peroxide is actually a hypergolic reaction at room temperature. You have to keep the stuff cold to stop it reacting and producing water, carbon dioxide and heat. Oh, and the reaction when you add the sulfuric acid is strongly exothermic.

Then you need to filter and dry the product, and probably use a blasting cap to detonate it. Interestingly, one mole of explosive will produce three moles of cold gas; this means that for a couple of litres of reagent, the most gas that can possibly be produced is just over 75 litres. I can’t see that producing significant overpressure in a modern widebody jet of volume many hundreds of thousands of litres.

Here's how you blow up a plane:

a little knowledge of the aircraft you're taking (this can be obtained easily & publicly)
an Urn of your mother's ashes (containing Iron Oxide and Aluminium powders)
a funky looking necklace (made of a strip of Magnesium)
a match (already permitted)

Simple: a Thermite reaction that would burn right through the aircraft in about 15 seconds streaming molten Iron into the center fuel tank with the inevitable results.

Interview Questions

In the last few months, I had been doing interviews. I had been asking most of the technical questions, but then I had few interesting questions: Explain to me how you would test/QA a salt shaker? Tell me why a manhole cover is round? How would you explain using Excel to your grandmother? Name an everyday object? (corkscrew), Now tell me 5 unconventional uses for it? My favorite: You are a prize fighter, everyone has a song they play on the way to the ring. What's your theme song?

I just ran across a site that a similar question, one I'd think you wouldn't want to ask in an interview: what song you’d like to have playing at your funeral?

Now, I spent a few days on the theme song: I want to conquer the world, Bad Religion. I think it will take me some time come up with this one...

Of course, the geeks at work thought all of the psychology questions were stupid. Well, they're geeks... they know systems, not people. I think I'll do a much better job of being an interviewee, now that I've been on the other side of the desk. I guess I'll find out soon, since they canned my boss the week before last... Why did I go back to the corporate world?

I am still having odd random bouts of itching. I am sure this is related to the meds & the lack of nicotine. If I can last a few more days I should be good. I know I will still have the cravings!

Damn you All! Why did you have to smoke spirits?!?!?!? I did this once before.

Jebus, crazy chinooks all night.

This is the wind graph from Foothills Lab on the Mesa. Top wind gust: 57.7 mph @ 04:15 They are not shielded by much, but they are closer to S. Boulder Mtn.

That and it knocked out power around 2300... so that was fun too.

Fucking wind...

So, "I went snowboarding" today... what a joke. I check the Eldora web site to get the grooming report this am. Everything was ok, until I got there. Now their site says: Upper Mountain Lifts currently on Wind Hold, Challenge, Indian Peaks and Corona. Little Hawk Mt. is in operation. Please call for updates.

I can't win. I guess I could have been killed if I went to my other choice Winter Park!

yeah, now I can watch the Dallas Cowboys lose to Seattle tonite. yay.

EDIT: as expected, we fucked it up! thx dallas!
